RtI Survey
Are you a special education teacher, parent of a child with a disability, a school counselor, or an administrator? If so, please take a moment to complete this survey.
This is part of an authorized research program of the University of Central Oklahoma. Its purpose is to examine the perceived effectiveness  of Response to intervention (RtI) and the Discrepancy Formula models used to identify and diagnose children with specific learning disabilities.

If you wish to complete this survey, please respond before November 30th.
Through the Eyes of a Child
It's one thing to read about learning and attention issues, but another to see them through a child's eyes. Use these simulations and videos to better understand a child with a disability's world.

In this simulation from Understood.org
, you can experience how frustrating it is when your hand won't write what your brain is telling it to. Or how hard it is to complete a task when you have trouble focusing.
Lawmakers Say, Disability No Reason to Deny Organ Transplants
In a letter sent this month to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office for Civil Rights, members of the House of Representatives urged the agency to address what they called "persistent" organ transplant discrimination.

In recent years, a handful of high-profile cases have highlighted the disparities faced by people with developmental disabilities needing organ transplants. In 2012 Amelia Rivera, who was diagnosed with intellectual disability, was denied a kidney transplant. In another case that same year, Paul Corby was denied a heart transplant due to his autism diagnosis.

The letter calls for guidance from HHS clarifying that denying an organ transplant based on a person's disability would violate the Americans with Disabilities Act.
